Now, like any good writer, you know you need to sculpt and hone the script to realize its full potential. Often, we’re frustrated because we know there are holes, gaps and missed connections in our stories but we can’t see them anymore - we’re too close to the material. That’s where I come in. My goal is to answer two significant questions – what is the writer trying to say in this story and how can it be written more effectively to achieve the writer’s vision?

To begin, I will identify the unique dramatic idea of your story and write a clear and concise sentence(s) to define that idea. Then I will move through the script looking at the structure, character development, sources of conflict and the final climax to see if the story reflects the dramatic idea - to see if you have achieved what you started out to do.

Next, I look at the script to see how you tell the story. There is craft to writing well and though I don’t believe in formulas, I do believe in form – dramatic form. I will analyze your scene construction, pace and the overall tone of the story to see if you are creating a storytelling style that enhances the dramatic idea. The goal is to use the craft of storytelling to bring out the power and the uniqueness of your story.

PERSONALIZED STORY CONSULTATION PACKAGE

This is a comprehensive and detailed breakdown of your script.  I will provide a page by page analysis, focusing on such things as:

• Story Structure – scene/act design, meaningful sub-plots, crisis, climax, resolution

• Character Development – needs, distinct voice, dialogue, uniqueness

• The Principles of Antagonism – the force of opposition, dramatic construction

• Exposition – the difficult yet subtle way we convey necessary information

• Theme – how it works throughout your story, tone, pacing

This detailed analysis (5-7 pages of notes) will clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses within your script with concrete solutions and strategies to overcome the problems.

Throughout the analysis, I will discuss aspects of the craft of story that have particular relevance to your writing. I will show you how “form” not “formulas” work.

I will give you comparable movie examples so you can reference specific points of their writing to your own – helping you learn through visual examples.

I will send you back the hard copy of your script (client’s postage) marked up with all my comments over the several readings that I give the script. This is an invaluable reference tool for the rewriting process.
